Family Law Practice

Carmichael Family Lawyers is a top Family Law Firm in the Durham Region conveniently located in downtown Oshawa, two blocks from the courthouse.

We have virtual offices in Lindsay, Peterborough, Cobourg with a physical office in Oshawa.

All initial consultations will either be by telephone or by Zoom at your choice. In advance of a consultation, you will need to complete and return by email an intake form with a small consultation fee. The intake form is available on our website. We will also need scanned copy of either your driver’s license or passport, or other satisfactory identification. This is a requirement of the Ontario Law Society aimed at reducing fraud and money laundering. It is our obligation to keep all communication with you strictly private and confidential unless otherwise authorized by you implicitly or expressly.

Communication with our office will be by telephone, email and or/ Zoom.
Moreover, you are welcome to visit our physical office in Oshawa if it more convenient to do so (subject to COVID-19).

If you retain our services, you will be asked to sign a written Retainer Agreement. That Retainer Agreement sets out our fees and office policies.

It is our policy that all incoming correspondence is promptly delivered to you by email within 24 to 48 business hours. All outgoing correspondence including draft pleadings and documentation must be approved by you in advance, unless it is strictly administrative. Currently, most Court attendances are conducted by Zoom as per the government’s direction due to COVID-19 pandemic and its variants. In the event that a personal attendance is required by the Court, the lawyer handling your matter will be attending in person. This is the reason why we have virtual offices in Lindsay, Peterborough, Cobourg as well as a physical office in Oshawa. We are able to physically attend those jurisdictions as may be required by the Court from time to time.

The benefits of a virtual office to you are significant. It is convenient and saves time. No driving, no parking, and cost-effective.

To date, we have successfully concluded many of our client’s matters virtually.
